Mandela8, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with a mission to celebrate, commemorate and pursue the legacy of Nelson Mandela’s outstanding achievements for humanity, appoints David Brown as a trustee.
David, Director at Pine Court Housing Association, has had an impressive career in the housing sector spanning over 35 years. He has also held several non-executive director roles in black-led organisations and community projects, working to promote cultural tolerance and cohesion across the Liverpool City Region and beyond.
Through these roles, David has aimed to create a better future for minority ethnic communities, from working with disadvantaged young people as part of the Toxteth Tigers Community Mentoring Programme to championing the delivery of inclusive housing and services through Pine Court Housing Association, Mandela House and Arawak Walton Housing Association.

Following the official opening of a new memorial to Nelson Mandela in Princes Park in 2023, David joined Mandela8 trustees to celebrate the launch of a book written by Dr Makaziwe Mandela [Nelson Mandela’s daughter] and attend a Black History Month themed panel.
David Brown said:
“I come from a family of activists so when I had the opportunity to come on board as a trustee I jumped at the chance. My role as a trustee will support Mandela8’s aim to leave a lasting legacy of Nelson Mandela’s outstanding achievements across our communities and will support Pine Court’s commitment to cultural tolerance and cohesion by addressing inequality and championing change.”
Mandela8 are supporting a number of upcoming programmes which David says he is thrilled to be part of;
- Roots and Wings is a 12-week programme helping disadvantaged young people who are at risk of or have been excluded from school, to build their confidence, get back on track and return to mainstream education.
- My 67 Minutes is a celebration initiative of Nelson Mandela’s life spent fighting for equality and asks people to give 67 minutes of their time to do an act of kindness which helps to improve cohesion and raise awareness of different cultures and beliefs.
- The expansion of the Nelson Mandela Memorial into an educational resource, including school and volunteer programmes and a pop-up stall that will tour different communities to raise awareness of their activities.
